Challenge # 3 - Rainbow

Hello everyone!
It is time for our new challenge here at Scrap Africa, and we are pretty sure that it will bring some color
to your day!
Let's celebrate our "rainbow nation" !
Make anything with a rainbow or inspired by a rainbow: you can decorate your project with a rainbow or you can use a photograph of a rainbow in your layout. You can use the word "rainbow" in the title of your project. Or you can be inspired by a beautiful picture of a rainbow to create a colorful effect on your project
(then please provide your inspirational image).
Don't forget that it is up to you to decide if it is going to be a layout, a card or an altered object.
Let your creativity and imagination guide you!

We are very honored and excited to welcome amazingly talented and creative Rene Sharp
as a guest designer for today's challenge.

Here is what Rene' had to share about herself:
"Hello, my name is Rene’ Sharp and I live in a small town Dundee in Northern KZN. I have been happily married to my hubby Ray for 13 years now and we have 3 sons, Caide – 12, Bryce – 10 and Jamie – 4. I absolutely adore being a Mom and Wife and love the life we live in our little town. It’s a great place to bring up our boys!!
I have been scrapbooking since 2005 when I was shown a small demonstration, and have been hooked ever since. I am absolutely passionate about this hobby, and love the rewards it brings. To me there is nothing better than when my boys pull out their albums and they get excited remembering occasions and events from years gone by. I starting stamping and cardmaking a few years later, and also thoroughly enjoy the creative outlet this provides me!!
I am currently on the DT for a site called Sketches in Thyme, and in the past years have been on numerous scrapbooking and card making Design Teams.
I am so excited and happy to have been chosen as a Guest Designer here at Scrap Africa, it is a wonderful site, and I am so pleased to have this “South African” led and organized challenge blog to play along with!!
I would love for you to drop by my blog Living in sunny South Africa and say “hi”."

Dad, thank you for teaching me to always find time to see a rainbow."

Here is what Sophia has to say:
"Hi all you keen Scrappers…
Just wanted to thank the wonderful team on Scrap Africa for giving me a chance to be a Guest Designer this month. The new site is awesome and I wish them all they best as they grow from strength to strength.
I have reached that age, where they say life begins at 40, which I think is really true. Married to my loving and supportive husband Murray for 10 years. We have 2 beautiful girls Amy (8 years) and Chloe (4 years), they are my inspiration to scrapbook. I am born and bred in Durban, South Africa, a little city along the coastline. I had always been a keen card-maker, until my sister-in-law introduced me to the world of Scrapbooking in October 2001. I went for my first class at a local craft shop in November and you could say I had been bitten by the Scrappin Bug! When my husband and I had started to think about starting a family, the birth of my daughter motivated me to create a legacy to leave behind for her one day. As well as it being a hobby that I can actually loose myself in! My style….. well I don’t know that I have one, as my layouts range from simple to shabby to heritage and I am not afraid of colour or stretching my comfort zone. I try to keep as  much focus on the photo`s - sometimes my style changes with the wind but I guess that is creativity for you. I have had the pleasure of being on a few Manufacturing DT’s Pebbles Inc; Imaginisce and a few Kit sites too. Have been pubbed in a few mags local and international (Scrapbook Trends). A close friend and I started a kit club here in SA beginning of Jan 2011called Le Shabby CafĂ©, where we package a monthly kit filled with gorgeous yumminess (matching papers, cardstock and embellishments)…
I leave you with this quote “Life can be stressful. Scrapbooking shouldn’t be.”
To learn more about me click on my blog Sophia’s World "

Sophia flipped the sketch and tweaked it a bit to her design. She created clusters of embellished areas on her LO. Also she punched circles in the background paper to give it a 3D effect.
She says: "I loved the sketch this month. Hope to see you take part in this sketch challenge…have fun!"

Our next guest is well known and her beautiful work is loved by many -
Gerry van Gent

Gerry says:

"My name is Gerry - a 38 Bulgarian woman living in The Netherlands. I`m a mom of two adorable kids and a wife of a very supportive hubby. I`m lucky to be able to stay at home and have plenty of time to spend with my kids and of course I have plenty of time for my hobbies...scrapbooking and photography. I got involved in scrapbooking back in 2003 when my first child was born and I never stopped since then. I find inspiration in my kids, in everyday life and of course in the products I work with.
My work is always detailed and dimensional. I love misting, masking, stamping, making my own embellishments and I love hand-stitching on my layouts.
I`m designing for Webster`s Pages, The Scrap Cake, Manor House Creations, Imaginarium Designs, Once Upon A ...Sketch, The Color Room and I`m teacher at Miss Art`s.
Thank you for having me as a guest-designer!"

Today our scrappy house is full of guests! Erin and Tatiana were winners of our first sketch challenge and today they also joined us with their wonderful projects.
*********
****
Tatiana's layout is about "Dacha" which means a summer house or a country house. She used a photo of her daughter together with her great-grandmother. Tatiana sewed two layers of paper together with different stitches. She covered the chip-board letters with glossy accent. She wrote the story on a tag which is hidden behind the photograph.

Now it is our design team's turn to inspire you.

Jowilna Nolte

Jowilna says: "I loved working with this sketch...anything with circles is my thing! I did replace the top right hand circle for the totally awesome Graphic 45 circus cut out piece. My latest graze on layouts - using tile spacers - yip that white little thingie on the large circle. I just added some sewing and there you have a funky little embellishment! Enjoy!"

Challenge # 2 - FABSCRAPS

Greetings to all our wonderful scrappy friends!
We hope that all of you are doing great and that you are full of inspiration and desire to create.
It is time for our new challenge reveal.
Did you know that here in South Africa we are very proud of our country and we like to celebrate any kind of achievements of our fellow people?
Our own proudly South African FabScraps are becoming more and more popular all around the world and we thought that it is a good reason to congratulate them on it and make a little party in their honor.
And here is how we are gonna do it.
Our challenge is pretty simple. Make anything you want - a layout, a card, an altered or paper craft object.
You also decide on the theme of your creation.
The only requirements we have for your project - you must use  FabScraps' materials in it.
If you haven't try it yet then it is your chance to begin - you will love it!

**********
Please give warm welcome to our guest designer - very talented and creative
Jamie Penson

Jamie is very passionate about scrapbooking and everything else that involves creativity: painting, sewing, drawing, crafting...
She is very lucky to do what she loves the most as her day job, as she is the project designer and teacher for FabScraps.
Please pay Jamie a visit at her blog - Jamies Happy Scrapping

Jamie created this double page Family Tree Heritage layout using FabScraps Organic paper range as well as all their chipboard embellishments and stickers.

***********
Our next guest designer is Denise van Deventer.
Denise is the winner of our first sketch challenge and it is great honor for us that she joined us today.
Make sure to visit her blog Strawbs' Patch, where you will find a lot of very happy and creative projects that will brighten your day!

For her layout Denise used FanScraps' papers from Heritage range and a chip-board border.
Denise did a lot of distressing on the various layers of papers and used alcohol inks and pigment inks to create this effect. She wanted to give her layout lots of depth and so also the reason for the layering.
The Fabscraps border was also distressed and painted with blue, brown and white craft paint.

***********
Now it is turn for our creative team to show you  our projects with wonderful FabScraps materials.

For her beautiful card Evgenia used Vintage Baby-girl resin sticker from FabScraps.

**********

Svetlana used FabScraps' Seeds and Rays of Colour papers and chip-board tree shape.
The background paper was altered with some acrylic paint and stamps.
**********

Cathy Lane

Among many other FabScraps' materials Cathy used Timeless Travel paper, photo corners and pearls.

For her Mother's Day card Cathy used Sugar and Spice papers from FabScraps

***********

To create this pretty card, Jeaunes used papers from FabScraps' Sugar and Spice collection, along with some bits and pieces she had in her stash.

***********

For this card Jowilna used the multi coloured stripe paper from FabScraps along with the green check at the bottom and teamed it with some additional green and yellow patterned paper. The focal point is a little house built from paper, a printed tag, diamante and recycled stamp packaging. Some simple sewing and buttons finishes off this quick card.

***********

Lynette made a birthday card for a man using FabScraps' Blue Gingham and Dot papers which teamed very well with tags from Graphic45.
**********
Now we would want to see your creations with wonderful FabScraps products!
You have 3 weeks till 22 March to enter.
